HIT Policy Committee Discusses Preliminary Draft Recommendations for Stage 3 Meaningful Use
On August 1, the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT (ONC) HIT Policy Committee (HITPC) held its monthly business meeting, which featured a presentation from the Meaningful Use (MU) Workgroup on its preliminary draft recommendations for Stage 3 of the Medicare/Medicaid EHR Incentive Program. The MU Workgroup plans to release the preliminary draft Stage 3 recommendations for public comment around November 2012, with an interim/preview version released for discussion in October 2012, and finalization of the recommendations around May 2013. The various efforts of the MU Workgroup and other HITPC workgroups related to the Stage 3 MU recommendations development process are accessible via the ONC’s website.
In terms of imaging, the MU Workgroup continues to support what they call “efficiency” clinical decision support (CDS) for the appropriateness of radiology orders. The MU Workgroup’s draft preliminary recommendations also support moving the proposed Stage 2 image accessibility objective from the menu set to the core.
