ONC HITSC Clinical Operations Workgroup Continues Discussion on Image Sharing Use Cases and Standards

August 29, 2013 1 comment

On August 29, the ONC HIT Standards Committee (HITSC) Clinical Operations Workgroup members met virtually to continue their discussion on technical standards related to image sharing. The meeting featured a presentation on image sharing use cases and standards by Dr. David Clunie, editor of the DICOM standard and co-chair of the IHE Radiology Technical Committee.

Previously, the HITSC Clinical Operations Workgroup heard from RSNA informatics representatives on June 14, the RSNA pilot lead as well as the ACR IT and Informatics Committee chair on June 28, and lifeIMAGE representatives on July 19. The workgroup held additional internal discussions on July 26 and August 9.

The HITSC Clinical Operations Workgroup will continue these discussions and eventually report its findings on use cases and associated specifications/standards for image sharing to the full HITSC.  The full HITSC can choose to use that information in standards/certification criteria recommendations for future stages of Meaningful Use.

Farzad Mostashari Confirms Plans to Resign as HHS National Coordinator for HIT

August 7, 2013 3 comments

During the August 7 HIT Policy Committee meeting, the National Coordinator for HIT, Dr. Farzad Mostashari, publicly confirmed his plans to resign in the coming months. Dr. Mostashari officially took over for Dr. David Blumenthal in April 2011 after serving briefly in an acting capacity.

Following Dr. Mostashari’s planned departure, the Principal Deputy National Coordinator, Dr. David Muntz, will likely serve as acting National Coordinator until the Secretary of HHS formally appoints the successor. If the Secretary selects someone from within, Dr. Muntz would be the most likely candidate given his position and responsibilities. Just as likely, the Secretary could choose someone from the private sector, as she did with Dr. Blumenthal in 2009.
